Jay Ambrose has shown selective ignorance with “Trump deserves our gratitude” (The Columbian, Nov. 17). Operation Warp Speed is a wonderful thing, and Trump should get credit. Ambrose however, chooses to ignore the fact we would not have over 14 million Americans infected and over 274,000 dead if Donald had attempted to get this pandemic under control by following CDC, WHO, and scientific guidelines. Wear masks? Not him. Social distance? Not him. Avoid crowds? Not him.
His White House is an example of what happens when these guidelines are ignored, becoming a petri dish of infections. His rallies were an invitation to play Russian roulette with the virus. He ignores science.
Remember the story of the Pied Piper luring children into the sea? We should be smarter, but obviously many Americans cannot resist the allure of Trump’s pipe. He makes no attempt to stem the tide of this virus by good example, nor encourage his followers to listen to science. Warp Speed is great. But ignorance of science is not, and credit must be given there also.
