Letter: More of the same next year

The Electoral College certified Joe Biden as the president-elect more than two weeks ago. Yet Trump still refuses to concede the election. After all, if he concedes it will weaken the basis of his “stolen election” campaign for president in 2024.

I foresee Trump spending the next four years relentlessly beating the drum of his “stolen election.” He will continue to promote the fear, hate, bigotry, and lies that keep his brainwashed base inflamed. He, of course, will blame President Biden for the resulting chaos and division that Trump created and continues to stoke.

The invertebrate Republicans in Congress go on supporting his ludicrous election fraud claims, and they will do everything they can to render the next administration ineffective. This, at least in part, is out of fear of his wrath if they don’t do his bidding, and he is elected in 2024. The abrupt “resignation” of Attorney General William Barr is a pointed reminder to them of how vindictive he can be toward anyone he perceives as being disloyal to him personally.

Trump may not be in the White House after Jan. 20, but his malevolent influence will be with us for at least the next four years.
