Letter: Can you spell G-O-P s-t-a-l-l?

Frank Funk took the Democrats to task in his letter (“Democrats ignore real issues,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 25), claiming that for the past three years they have spent most of their time trying to “destroy our duly elected president by impeachment and trying to destroy our beloved United States, spending millions of taxpayer’s dollars and ignoring the needs of our nation and citizens.”

The House Democrats have written and passed more than 400 bills since Jan. 1, 2019, including For the People Act (HR1) to expand voting rights, limit partisan gerrymandering, strengthen ethics rules, and limit the influence of private donor money in politics; The Equality Act that “prohibits discrimination on the basis of the sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition of an individual” (HR5); the Paycheck Fairness Act to provide more effective remedies to victims of discrimination in the payment of wages on the basis of sex, and for other purposes (HR7). These bills and others remain stacked on Mitch McConnell’s desk, which he proudly calls the “graveyard” because he refuses to allow the Senate vote on them.

Who is blocking the will of the people — can you spell G-O-P?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
