Boys basketball: Skyview 67, Camas 51

Kyle Gruhler scored 16 points in the first quarter as the Storm shot out to a big first-half lead and never looked back.

Behind Gruhler, Skyview led 24-12 after one quarter and 45-25 at halftime.

“Kyle really set the tone for us early,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “But I think the big thing we did is slow down (Camas’) 3-point game. Last time we played them, they made 12 3-pointers, including 10 by one guy. But this time, they only attempt 12 and two. That was kind of our game plan going in, and I thought the guys did a good job of executing.”

Kyle Gruhler finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jace Chatman hit 3 3-pointers and finished with 22 points.

Armand Nunez had 20 to lead Camas.

The win meant Skyview is assured of playing at least one more game beyond Wednesday’s regular-season finale against Union — either a tiebreaker on Friday or in the bi-district tournament next week.

Camas is now faced with a must-win situation Wednesday against Battle Ground to keep its postseason hopes alive.
