Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org.

Camas

First Fridays in Camas are themed, family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m. when galleries stay open late for artist receptions. Guests can also enjoy after-hours shopping, dining and additional activities inspired by the month’s theme. April’s theme is “Spring into History.” downtowncamas.com

Continuing exhibits

The Lost Ark of African American Art, History & Experience in Vancouver and the Northwest, through February. This exhibit, hosted by the Vancouver NAACP in honor of Black History Month, features art, artifacts and stories from Vancouver’s own Black history, from the “First Families” — African Americans who settled here before 1945 — to the present. “Kevin Peters: Redefining Past and Present,” through Feb. 15, features art by Nez Perce artist Kevin Peters. His most coveted pieces are traditional works such as quilts, headdresses, and buckskin and rawhide items. His works honor past artists while reflecting contemporary Nez Perce culture. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Visitor Center, 1501 E. Evergreen Blvd., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“Twist,” through Feb. 28. This exhibit features the work of Sherry Saele and Krista Anara Cibis, tweaking traditional forms of fiber arts and using techniques such as weaving, needle point, jewelry making, and other processes that cross back and forth from craft to art to practical handiwork. “In Stillness and Motion; Containment of the Aesthetic,” through March 23. This exhibit features the work of Megan Eckman and Alder Suttles. Eckman’s “Flatteringly Flat” series revels in the aesthetic interplay of pattern on pattern. Suttles’ work centers on water imagery and poolside scenes. Opening exhibits

The Art of Grace Janku, through Feb. 29 with an opening reception and fundraising art sale from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7. An exhibit of the art of Columbia River High School senior Grace Janku, presented as a benefit for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Janku’s younger brother has terminal melanoma and has received free treatment at St. Jude for the past six years. Janku, who will begin an art degree at George Fox University this fall, is offering the fundraiser as as part of her school’s engagement outreach program. The art is on display in Niche Wine Bar’s “Loo-vre” bathroom exhibit space. “Unbridled,” through March 28, is a solo exhibit of Michael Lindstrom’s latest oil paintings with an opening reception 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 featuring light refreshments and a chance to meet the artist. Inspired by the diverse landscape of the Pacific Northwest, Lindstrom enjoys painting local scenes. Art on the Boulevard, 210 W. Photography Show, through February, with a First Friday opening reception 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 featuring treats, music and a chance to meet the artists. “Reflections of the Pacific Northwest,” through February, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7. This exhibit features the photographs of nature photographer Karen Stuwe. “Farewell to the Pig,” through Feb. 29 with an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7. In a group show that bids farewell to the Year of the Pig before welcoming the Year of the Rat, this exhibit features the new swine-related works of more than 15 artists including Pepe Hidalgo, Robert Bickel, Erin Dengerink, Samyak Yamauchi, Anne John, Sharon Svec, kathi rick, Greg Bee, Cynthia Heise, Sarah Dillon, Jill Falk, Russell Ford, COWS Vancouver, Vivi LaRue and Steve Eichenberger.
