Letter: Both parties have ‘deplorables’

I was reading Leonard Pitts’ column last week entitled “Hillary was right about ‘deplorables‘ ” (The Columbian, Feb. 7). I happen to be a “deplorable”; I was born in West Virginia up Elk River, moved to Arkansas at age 2 and then to Alabama at age 5. I worked as a tenant farmer for over 40 years. Some of us talk “funny” like that guy on the Don Lemon news show. The education of many of us is lacking, however, we do believe in the Bible and the Second Amendment.

I was wondering about the education of many or most immigrants and inner-city folk, both big voting blocs for the more progressive political party. Many of these folks may not be Rhodes or Fulbright Scholar material. Why doesn’t Leonard Pitts mention these voters?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
