La Center took control with a big second quarter, then held off the pesky Eagles to advance to the 1A district semifinals.

“Elma played us tough,” La Center coach Jeremy Ecklund said. “They outrebounded us. I think maybe they were a little better than our boys thought.”

La Center trailed 12-11 after one quarter. But the Wildcats were able to get the ball inside more in the second quarter, which enabled them to take a 35-24 lead into halftime.

“We were able to score inside, which allowed us to get into our press and wreck some havoc there,” Ecklund said.

Riley Fender had a career-high 14 points and six rebounds. Hunter Ecklund had 24 points, five assists and four steals.
