EUGENE, Ore. — A Portland couple convicted of killing a 21-year-old Lane Community College student last year in a case of mistaken identity was sentenced Thursday in Lane County Circuit Court.
Regis Kindred, 30, who pleaded guilty last week to second-degree murder, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 25 years, The Register-Guard reported. Kailee Von Foster, 29, was sentenced to over 6 years. She pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, acknowledging her role as the getaway driver in the May 4 murder of Alex Gradin.
Both defendants asked Gradin’s family for forgiveness.
Family members and friends of Gradin offered messages of forgiveness, but the statements were interwoven with palpable grief.
Kindred, a member of the Rollin 60s gang, believed Gradin was a member of rival Hoover Gang when he saw Gradin crossing the University of Oregon parking lot behind Taylor’s Bar and Grill, where the shooting happened. The couple had been driving around looking for a Hoover gang member after leaving a strip club earlier that morning, prosecutors said.
