Out & About: Local wildlife club to meet March 4

The Vancouver Wildlife League will be holding its monthly members meeting on Wednesday, March 4.

It will be held at the WDFW Region 5 headquarters in Ridgefield, and will start at 7 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Willem (Win) Van Der Merwe, who will give a presentation on his Chacma Hunting Safari.

The public is welcome to attend.

Flyfishers offer beginners fly-fishing school

The Clark-Skamania Flyfishers will hold their annual beginners fly-fishing class on Saturday, April 18 at the Camas Meadows Golf Club in Camas.

The class costs $50, which includes lunch, beverages, and a beginner’s fly-fishing handbook. The class will start at 9 a.m.

Instruction will cover basic equipment, fly casting, knots, match the hatch and flies, places to fish, fishing techniques, water safety and the importance of wild fish in streams.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own flyrod and reel for casting instruction. For those without gear, it will be provided.

Registration opens for Klineline Kids Fishing Event

The Klineline Kids Fishing non-profit has announced that registration is now open for the annual Kids Fishing Derby held at Klineline Pond every spring. The derby will be held May 1-2.

May 1 is the special needs day, with kids and adults with special needs participating, and May 2 will be the main event for everyone else.

In recent years as many as 3,000 kids have taken part in the derby.

Gifford Pinchot NF Road Closures

Forest Roads 59, 77, and 75 (Milepost 3.0) have been closed. Heavy rains have caused severe damage to these roads. They are impassable and will be closed until further notice.
