So Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, has decided to give our president a hall pass by voting to not impeach President Donald Trump. I disagree completely.
I believe if it was President Hillary Clinton who had asked a foreign government to dig up some dirt on a political opponent, you bet the Republicans would be calling for impeachment. I would, too. It doesn’t matter what party the current president belongs to, what he did was wrong. He basically thumbed his nose at Congress and at the Constitution. I look at the president not as an almighty figure, but as a CEO we have hired to run the day-to-day business of governing the nation. When he or she screws up, they should be fired.
The main argument people seem to make in liking Trump is that “he creates jobs.” Then hire him to be an economic adviser, but don’t hire him to be the president. I will argue that everything is not about money. The Republicans I’ve talked to seem more interested in “how will this benefit me personally” than what is good for the future and for the world. I have never been so embarrassed to call someone the president of the United States.
