Ashley Rodriguez hit two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to lift the Hudson’s Bay girls basketball team to a 47-43 win over Kelso to open play in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.

The game was tied 40-40 when Rodriguez, who averaged 1.7 points a game coming into the game, hit her two 3-pointers to put the Eagles up 46-40. Jaydia Martin hit a free throw before Kelso’s Alexis Kleven made a late 3-pointer.

“It was a tough matchup,” Bay coach Michael Rainville said. Kelso’s Natalie “Fraley got into foul trouble, so she didn’t play as much. But it was a good, defensive battle.”

Martin led the Eagles with 18 points. Kleven also had a 18 for Kelso, and Fraley added 11.

The win was Bay’s fifth in a row, while Kelso has dropped four straight after a 6-0 start.
