Girls basketball: La Center 59, Seton Catholic 36

LA CENTER 59, SETON CATHOLIC 36 — The Wildcats defense limited the Cougars to 14 first-half points and picked up 25 points from sophomore Kylee Stephens in the Trico 1A League opener. Stephens chipped in six rebounds as well.

Gianna D’Emilio had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists for La Center (4-6, 1-0), and Alyse Webberley and Mia Edwards each added 10 points. Webberley also had 13 rebounds.

Jasmine Morgan (11 points) and Maddie Willis (10) reached double figures for Seton Catholic (6-5, 0-1).

“We did not shoot well but a lot of that was because they played good defense,” Seton coach Phil Kent said.
