Amid an announcement that Pier 1 Imports is closing 450 of its stores nationwide, two local branches will remain open, store employees told The Columbian on Tuesday.

The location in Vancouver, at 16525 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., was informed by the corporate headquarters that it is not closing, said assistant store manager Samantha Flansburg. The store employs about 13 people. The Jantzen Beach location, at 1800 N. Tomahawk Island Drive, will also remain open, said an employee who went by Holly, who refused to give her last name to The Columbian.
