PORTLAND — Intel said Tuesday that Andy Bryant, long the chipmaker’s most senior Oregon executive, has stepped down as chairman and will retire from the board altogether in May.

Omar Ishrak, CEO of medical technology company Medtronic, took over as Intel’s chairman at the board’s Jan. 15 meeting. Additionally, Intel named Square Inc. executive Alyssa Henry to its 11-member board.

“I have full confidence in Omar leading the board, which is fortunate to have his expertise at leading an innovative, global company,” Bryant said in a written statement Tuesday. “In addition, Alyssa’s wealth of senior leadership, cloud computing and emerging technologies experience further strengthens Intel’s board.”

Bryant, 69, joined Intel in 1981, when the company’s sales totaled $789 million. The company he leaves generated more than $70 billion in revenue annually and makes the vast majority of computer chips running PCs and laptops and nearly every processor running the data centers that power the internet.
