Letter: Unhealthy voting record

Jaime Herrera Beutler’s mailer says, “Jaime is working hard to reduce medical costs for seniors and all Americans by removing blockades that keep drug prices high.” The other one says “Jaime helps advance HR 3.”

What the mailers fail to mention is that Jaime has worked tirelessly with her GOP cohorts ever since she has been in office to kill any meaningful healthcare legislation that would help the poor and middle class with affordable health care access, or that would bolster the long-term financial health of Medicare. She has voted selfishly with her party to kill the Affordable Health Care Act, which will eliminate the coveted pre-existing condition coverage protections, free preventive care and coverage for dependents under the age of 26. Commensurate with these votes, she would also deny expanded Medicaid coverage for the working poor. Her voting record shows a history of siding with her donors over her constituents.

HR 3 would have passed the House without Herrera Beutler’s vote. Jaime needs to provide full disclosure about taking a seemingly brave vote that she can then point to in an upcoming close re-election bid. On closer examination, it is clear she isn’t really fighting for her constituents as stated.
