Washington voters are invited to view a Zoom forum featuring candidates for the Secretary of State position at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The League of Women Voters of Spokane Area will host the virtual forum in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Washington and The Spokesman-Review newspaper. It will be televised on KSPS-TV and will be livestreamed on its website. Following the event, a recording of the forum will be available on the KSPS-TV website, The League of Women Voters of Washington Facebook page and website, and The Spokesman-Review website.

Republican Secretary of State Kim Wyman, who was first elected in 2012, will debate her three primary election challengers on Thursday. Rep. Gael Tarleton, a Democrat from Ballard, is running with a focus on cybersecurity during elections. Progressive Party candidate Gentry Lange, a real estate broker and voting rights activist, is running to restore the secret ballot. Social studies teacher Ed Minger, an independent, is focusing on election reform, including implementing an approval voting system.

The secretary of state primary forum is the second of 10 forums planned for this election cycle by League of Women Voters of Washington and The Spokesman-Review. Future forums taking place this fall will feature general election debates between candidates vying for governor, attorney general, state treasurer and to head the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
