Letter: Actions speak louder than words

It has always bothered me when my fellow citizens loudly and arrogantly proclaim, “America is the greatest country in the history of the world.” None of our fellow humans living outside of our borders enjoy it when we boast that our people are the best, the bravest, strongest, smartest, most caring and generous on the planet.

While a majority of the American people exhibit many of these desirable characteristics, there sadly is a smaller percentage who exhibit none. They are the ones who are not brave enough to rise up and fight the spread of COVID-19. They are not strong enough to deal with the inconvenience of wearing a mask and the need to be socially distant from their friends, simply because they don’t want to. They prove daily that they are not intelligent enough to understand and follow the advice of scientists and health care experts. They consistently prove that they don’t care for others. Only themselves.

This virus only needs enough selfish people to allow it to continue to spread. They live in our country. We need to join together and defeat them and the virus. Actions speak louder than words. Act like the best.
