SEATTLE — A 3-year-old boy died Sunday afternoon when a box-truck driver in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood hit a parked van while the boy was playing inside, according to police and fire departments.
The boy was thrown from the van and suffered a head injury, said a Seattle police summary. Officers attempted CPR without success, and paramedics also responded to the incident at 4:41 p.m., in the 1800 block of 30th Avenue.
Two other boys inside the van sustained minor injuries, Det. Patrick Michaud said.
Crash-investigation detectives arrived at the scene and will work with prosecutors to determine whether charges will be filed, a police news release said.
On average, there are 1,300 traffic collisions per year in Seattle and 18 deaths. Earlier this month, a driver died after hitting a pillar of the Magnolia Bridge. Seattle’s road-safety program, known as Vision Zero, set a goal of eliminating serious traffic injuries by 2030.
