Letter: Headlines and proclamations

The CDC Coronavirus COVID-19 website shows one case on Jan. 22 and 70,106 cases on July 22. It also shows total year-to-date cases, 4,163,892, and total deaths, 145,982.

“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”– Donald Trump, Feb. 28.

“And we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.” — Donald Trump, March 10.

No broken glass, no problem: The Associated Press reports, “Compared with other years, crime in 2020 is down overall.” Uniform Crime Report data from 26 major reporting cities with different report dates shows total crime is down by 4.2 percent from 2019 at least through the end of May.

Trump declares there is “a shocking explosion of shootings, killings, murders and heinous crimes of violence.”

“This bloodshed must end,” he said. “This bloodshed will end.”

Federal agents headed to cities.
