Letter: Take action, get involved

In response to Bob Mattila’s letter “We need to love one another” (Our Readers Views, June 12), I completely agree that we need to love one another. Few things we can do as people could accomplish more good.

The part about praying for Trump and other elected officials to set an example for us, though, would be about as effective as going out to catch fish on a lake and not bringing a fishing pole. Or trying to knock down the pins at a bowling alley without using a bowling ball.

Praying is not going to change our government. It’s not going to eradicate COVID-19. And it’s most definitely not going to solve our 400-year-old problem with racism. God is not going to magically make these things better or make them go away. People taking action and getting involved and making things happen will prove to be far more effective in stopping the bus on the steep hill from going into the lake and drowning us all. That being said, prayer never hurts either.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
