The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted several Juneteenth events to move online for this year.

The Southwest Washington Central Labor Council has been promoting a “Juneteenth Lunch & Learn” virtual event hosted by the Washington State Labor Council’s Racial Justice Committee. The event will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today and streamed live on the state labor council’s Facebook page.

The Vancouver NAACP branch traditionally holds an all-day Juneteenth Celebration at Clark College, but this year’s event will be a virtual meeting from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. The event is open to everyone; registration is required at naacpvancouverwa.org.

Several virtual events are also planned for Portland, including the Juneteenth Oregon 2020 Celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, hosted by the nonprofits Open Signal, Urban League of Portland, Jack London Revue, PDX Jazz and Juneteenth Oregon. The event will feature live musical performances and be broadcast on Facebook and Instagram.
