Yet another day, yet more double talk from the almighty around us. “Hospitals, operating under strict guidelines, reassure patients that it’s OK to seek timely care” reads the headline (The Columbian, June 17).
Then comes the standard picture we all have seen too many times by this point during the pandemic. Three people: a doctor, nurse, and patient in a wheelchair. The doctor, standing what appears to be no more than four feet away, has no mask on. The patient in the wheelchair has no mask on. The nurse seems to have some form of common sense (or at least non-hypocrisy) and is wearing a mask.
If the hospital can’t find a doctor that can follow the “rules” for long enough not to have the newspaper take a picture of them flaunting the “rules” — while being interviewed for a story about “strict guidelines” — what exactly are the “strict guidelines”? Who exactly is following the “strict guidelines”? Certainly not Dr. Saldua in the photograph.
This is why people have had enough. They are not stupid; they are tired of the elite telling them what to do while they do anything they please.
