A father and 5-year-old were struck in a crosswalk Saturday afternoon when two vehicles collided at an intersection in the Minnehaha area. Both are expected to survive, according to Vancouver police.

The crash was reported at 1:15 p.m. A Toyota Camry was traveling west on Northeast 44th Street, through the intersection at Northeast St. Johns Road, when a northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee ran the red light, Vancouver police Sgt. Sean Dumas said.

At the same time, the father and child had entered the crosswalk and were walking east. The impact of the collision spun the Toyota, causing it to strike the father and child, Dumas said.

The child appeared to be uninjured, and the father had “minor to moderate” injuries to his legs, Dumas said. Both were taken to a hospital. The driver of the Toyota complained of pain and was also transported, he said.

The driver of the Jeep was reportedly uninjured.

There were no arrests or citations, Dumas said.
