Letter: Remove Confederate monuments

By Alan J. Granat, Washougal

I would like to add my voice to the growing numbers of people demanding the removal of Confederate monuments. It’s just wrong to display these reminders of the worst war in United States history in this day and age.

And now that I know how many other ways and places these rebels were honored, it’s time to clean that house, too. It appears, also, that aside from military installations there are parks, colleges and public schools that also bear these names.

Heck, we even have one in our own backyard that should be removed, Jefferson Davis Park. The park is along the Interstate 5 southbound lanes in Ridgefield and is easily seen from the highway. It’s time, in my opinion, to remove this affront to improving race relations in Southwest Washington.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
