Letter: Trump deserves some blame

When Harry Truman was president he had a sign on his desk that read “The Buck Stops Here.” He knew that only barking loudly about your accomplishments was easy, the toughest part of his job was taking responsibility for the failures. Truman understood that the American people would stand behind him even in the tough times as long as he spoke to them truthfully about the failures and addressed how he would fix them.

Contrast Truman with Donald Trump. Always barking about how great and important he is, taking credit for everything that goes well. The difference is that he never ever takes responsibility for things that do not go well. It is always someone else’s fault. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic Trump claims it is Obama’s fault, the Democrats’ fault and the media’s fault.

Trump disbanded the National Security Council Pandemic office that was set up by the Obama administration to be prepared for just this type of outbreak. The NSC Pandemic office was to be on the lookout for emerging virus pandemic situations. This is Trump’s responsibility.

Trump’s response: “I don’t take responsibility at all.”
