Letter: Show trust in Washingtonians

By Kathy Wright, Vancouver
Published: May 1, 2020, 6:00am

Within the past few days, Gov. Jay Inslee has eased restrictions on the construction industry and the recreation industries, including fishing, hunting, and golfing. His actions suggest he believes that, based on the representations of these organized industry alliances, participants in those activities will act responsibly.

I believe that business operators and their employees are similarly willing and capable of developing health and safety protocols specific to their business/industry that would allow for a safe reopening of their business. At the same time, everyone who patronizes a business will be expected to act responsibly to protect their own health and the health of others.

I encourage Gov. Inslee to demonstrate the courage shown by state governors that have allowed limited the reopening of businesses, conveying his trust that Washingtonians will do their best to be kind, stay safe, and stay healthy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
