Letter: We need to be self-sufficient

How can they say we are the best nation in the world and everybody wants to move here, when our government and so many businesses do not care about employing our own legal citizens? They would rather have American citizens unemployed and support China, Japan and many other Asian countries.

I have seen many stories and reports that Americans would be willing to pay more for products produced and made in the USA.

Does it even make sense that 88 percent of ingredients for drugs that we use in the United States are produced overseas? The invisible enemy, COVID-19, came from China, and now we are relying on China to produce personal protective equipment for us, because we — supposed to be the greatest nation — don’t produce it ourselves. That makes no sense at all. We need to be self-sufficient and take care of ourselves.

If we were smart we would be taking care of ourselves, which would help our own economy and employment.

When companies have their products built out of the United States there should be excessive taxes on them to bring it into the United States.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
