Letter: Restaurant will be missed

By Toni Jacobson, Battle Ground

Today has been a very sad day. We heard that our favorite restaurant, The Hockinson Cafe, has closed for good due to the virus. I have been going to this restaurant for about four years for lunch, coffee, breakfast or just to see people that I have grown to love over the years. It has been like a second home for me.

A lot of people who work there are now out of work, but hopefully they will be fortunate enough to find employment soon. Their coffee has been the best, and — darn it — I am going to miss just about everyone who worked there. I feel like someone I have grown to love has died. I am so sorry they had to close, but I understand why they did.

Good wishes to all of them, to Lora and Bob, to Robin, to Anna and Laura and Darlene, and Mary and Margaret and the sweet ladies who would fill our coffee cups with a smile. And Kathy, who was always telling me to stay out of trouble and she didn’t want to read about me on the evening news. I am trying to be grown up about this, but it isn’t easy and I will miss them terribly.
