Letter: The needs of the many

By Rick Quintanilla, Vancouver

Thanks to Ken Simpson for his letter “Don’t let history repeat itself” (Our Readers’ Views, May 13). If you didn’t read it you should. He tells of his family’s experience with the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1919.

It’s been said the definition of insanity is “to repeat the same thing over again and expect a different result.” With all the protesting going on now about reopening, people’s right to go to work, etc., we need to think about what Mr. Spock said in one of the “Star Trek” movies: The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
