Letter: Nothing honorable about virus

Recently President Trump stated that the fact that the USA has the highest number of COVID-19 cases, over 1.5 million, in the world is somehow a “badge of honor.”

Stop and think about that ludicrous statement for a moment. Claiming that having the most confirmed cases of virus in the world is somehow a good thing. By this reasoning you can justify and ignore the consequences of Trump’s failure to protect the American public from this pandemic.

According to his reasoning, we test more so we have more cases. Following this path of logic, if we didn’t do such a great job of testing we wouldn’t have a problem. This whole issue would just go away if we just ignore it long enough. To any thinking and reasoning person having the highest number of infections also translates into the one of the highest number of sickness and death in the entire world. To Trump those are annoying fake-news alternative facts that get in the way of his brilliance.

This claim is like the captain of the Titanic claiming that it was a great victory that everyone on the ship didn’t drown. You just have to look for the alternative facts.
