Letter: BOGS regretfully shuts down

Bridge of the Gods Shuttle, or BOGS, will remain closed with no plans of reopening anytime soon. The projected decrease in sales and safety from the coronavirus are the deciding factors in this decision. All expenses that can be cut have been, including the website. The projected decrease in sales will not cover my operational costs (maintenance, insurance, fuel, toll, vehicle depreciation, Port of Portland annual fees, cost for picking up customers up at PDX, annual City of Portland fees, taxes, etc.).

Certain safety measures that would have to be made, if BOGS were to remain open, include a sealed plastic divider between the driver and passengers, masks to be worn by all individuals, hand sanitizer, removal of water for customers and a thorough cleaning in between rides, and potentially the elimination of short distance rides. Even with those safety measures, they aren’t foolproof.

This has been and continues to be a very difficult decision to make. I will continue to keep the public apprised on any additional updates. I want to thank all of you that have supported Bridge of the Gods Shuttle since 2018. I wouldn’t have made it as far as I did without the support of Gorge residents and customers outside of the Columbia River Gorge.
