Letter: Set aside time for mask-wearers

As someone who follows CDC guidelines and wears a mask when I am shopping, I am distressed and disgusted by some of our citizens who don’t and by gutless merchants who allow the maskless to frequent their establishments.

I have been to WinCo, Fred Meyer, Lowe’s and Home Depot and find as many as 50 percent without masks. I salute Costco for requiring masks.

Masks prevent the transmission of this virus and if merchants are unwilling to protect me by requiring all shoppers to wear them, I suggest they establish safe days and hours when those who do wear masks can shop with others who are also following guidelines. How about Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and half of each weekend day reserved for those who are wearing masks? That way those who are insisting that their freedom is more important than the health of their fellow citizens can shop with others like them.
