Letter: Stand up for the people

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, is a master at straddling the fence and avoiding taking strong positions while serving as a foil for Mr. Trump. “While I do think Congress should modernize by allowing the people’s representatives to utilize technology in the most extreme situations, I believe the House should convene for business at this time” (Local Angle with “In a first, House members cast proxy votes,” Associated Press, May 27).

One can only believe that she doesn’t believe that a pandemic that has killed more than 100,000 Americans isn’t extreme. More people have given their lives to this pandemic than to the Vietnam War; seems pretty extreme to me. We need someone who will stand up for the people, not the party.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
