Greg Jayne is wrong in his Sunday column “Time to abolish Electoral College” (The Columbian, Nov. 1). We are not a pure democracy, but a representative republic. Our Founding Fathers were wise in creating such a government after much thought and debate. We avoid the “tyranny of the majority.” To make such a change requires a constitutional amendment that requires a two-thirds vote of both chambers of Congress and must be ratified by three-fourths of the states. Not gonna happen, so let’s focus on real issues. And, in 2016, Hillary Clinton received over 2.9 million votes more than President Trump. In California, she won by about 4.3 million votes. Take away California and Trump won the popular vote.
