At the news of Sean Connery’s death, my husband and I began our own Sean Connery tribute by re-watching his classic James Bond films. It’s my opinion that Sean Connery’s portrayal of Agent 007 is one for the ages: He’s the consummate sophisticate, cool under pressure and pulls off the best devil-may-care attitude of all the movie Bonds (I will say that Daniel Craig is a close second in my book, but his spy tends to be moody, and after all, no one can say, “Bond, James Bond” quite like Sir Connery).
I read an article about Connery that said after he filmed his last James Bond film, “Diamonds Are Forever,” he just wanted to put the films behind him and move on – which he did to brilliant success. Some of my favorite “after Bond” movies are “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Man Who Would Be King,” “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” and “The Hunt for Red October.” Ready to watch these titles again (or for the first time)? Check out the library’s online catalog to put one or more of these films on hold.
His presence will be much missed by fans, but how lucky we are to have so many great movies to remind us of why we love him as James Bond…and beyond. Here’s a toast (and a martini) to you, Sean Connery, shaken not stirred.
