As many as 10,000 households saw power outages in the Portland-Vancouver area as a powerful storm dumped rain and strong winds lashed the region Friday morning.

Clark Public Utilities reported as many as a 900 people without power. By 8 a.m. some 200 people had power restored while crews worked to fix issues in the Camas area. By 9:15 a.m.  most outages in Clark County had been fixed.

Portland General Electric reported that more than 6,000 of its customers were without power as of 6 a.m. Pacific Power said that at least 2,900 of its customers were reporting outages.

The area saw wind gusts approaching 50 mph overnight, according to the National Weather Service, but that appeared tame compared to some places on the coast.

Cape Foulweather recorded a gust of 92 mph. Newport and Yachats both saw winds around 75 mph and hundreds of households in Tillamook and Lincoln counties were also without power.

Rain and strong winds were expected to continue through Friday morning, turning to showers by the afternoon.
