Many are saddened, frustrated and angry over the results of the elections on Tuesday. Blocking commuter traffic is not the answer. Destroying the integrity of the election process is not the answer. Physically or emotionally attacking others who are different is not the answer. Rioting, committing acts of violence and damaging private property is not the answer. Trespassing, occupying and damaging government property is not the answer. Shooting police officers is not the answer. Carrying a semi-automatic rifle in public to intimidate others is not the answer. Threatening to secede from the Union is not the answer.
Instead, get involved in your local community. Volunteer. Pressure your elected local, state and national representatives to put our country ahead of their political party and their careers. Hold them accountable if they don’t. Stand up against hatred, bigotry, discrimination and abuse of others. Be a mentor. Inspire a child. Educate yourself on current issues. Challenge others to do the same.
How we respond to our sadness, frustration and anger will be representative of our character and perhaps determine the future of this country.
