Letter: Protect, preserve Vancouver Lake

By Jim Luce, Vancouver

A recent Columbian story featured two of the many area high school students who have benefited from the Vancouver Lake Rowing Club’s program to win college scholarships (“Two Mountain View students use rowing to gain college scholarships,” The Columbian, Nov. 11). We have known for years that our lake brings economic and environmental benefits to our community. And last year, when it was under attack by the invasive “milfoil” weed, our community stepped up to raise the funds to treat and save the lake from what would have been the water equivalent of strangulation.

Bottom line, we need to continue to work together to provide our lake a consistent supply of clean water so that future generations can enjoy what we too often for granted.
