Letter: Columnist generates concerns

Finally, over the past week I find others concerned about Jay Ambrose’s lengthy comments in the opinion page of The Columbian. His latest one on November 24, “Lawsuit reaction hypocritical,” again supporting Trump and his friends aimed at dividing our country as Trump has been trying to do for four years.

Over the years I and others have attempted to respond to Ambrose’s comments but find difficulty since we can only respond every 30 days and our comments are at times limited to 100 words. It is impossible to respond truthfully to the hundreds of words he is allowed.

Having studied and taught journalism along with freedom of speech I know he has this right to speak his mind even if it is wrong and aids Trump in dividing our country. I also know that if The Columbian, or for that matter any news agency, also has the right to find a journalist that can speak to the truth and work to bring together our nation, they could also include it on the Opinion page next to the Ambrose comments.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
