Letter: Nightmare is over

“Our long national nightmare is over.” President Gerald Ford, August 1974.

It is quite ironic, but Trump really is and always has been one of the most transparent people ever. Everything he touches is self-interest. If it does not suit his fancy he will frown and disavow it.

I do not see him ever conceding and likely he will consider not being present at the next inauguration. He and his nepotistic family are now on their way out the door and they have no one to thank but themselves, being nothing more than the opportunists and bullies that they have always been.

I am quite proud of the groundswell against them, that in the final analysis has been a rout.

The Republican Party should be roundly ashamed. Many died because of them and many more will die in the aftermath. From Springfield, Ill., I sense the earth move uneasily. The echo there is heard here: “This is what I died for!”
