Letter: Character, integrity should matter

I was astonished by Ann Donnelly’s op-ed supporting President Trump despite his obvious character flaws. The “Party of Lincoln” that Donnelly alludes to no longer exists. The current Republican Party supports big deficit spending, crony capitalism, and foreign dictators, while it opposes free trade and has an anti-science bias. It is the party of corruption and not the “party of big ideas” as Donnelly asserts. I was especially disappointed with Donnelly’s implication that character and integrity should take a back seat in politics. Donnelly is an apologist for a political party gone wrong.
