Letter: Loss of Republican Party painful

By Marjorie Casswell, Vancouver

Sorry Ann Donnelly, but until you and those who really care fix your party, you will not bring back those Republicans who have left the party in recent years (“Vote Republican as a matter of bigger principles,” Oct. 4). Those of us who used to vote for a Republican we knew to be the best candidate for the job can no longer do so, because the Republican Party has lost those values for which you say it stands.

The current Republican Party is stuck in a place of acceptance of misogyny, racism, white supremacy, denial of science, and more values definitely not American. National leadership feels corrupt and tainted with care only for themselves and reelection. The poison seeps out to local levels and hurts us all.

I know you to be a good person. We definitely do not always agree on issues, but I know you to be open to understanding our differences. I feel for your loss. For all our loss.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
