Letter: Republicans ignore principles

By Allison M. Duncan, Vancouver

Ann Donnelly must have wrestled with some difficult mental gymnastics to continue justifying her vote for Trump and Culp as a vote on principle (“Vote Republican as a matter of bigger principles,” Oct. 4). By trying to gloss over the specific candidates, she ignores the reality that Trump has no moral compass and his primary driver is what something can do to benefit him or his family personally and not some higher Republican ideal.

Culp is not qualified to be governor of Washington as was already well-reasoned by The Columbian editorial staff (“In Our View: Jay Inslee deserves third term as governor,” Oct. 4). If Donnelly would like to look for some current and therefore more meaningful dialogue on Republican/conservative principles, I suggest she review comments from Bill Kristol, George Will, George Conway, Steve Schmidt and Michael Steele.
