Letter: Support Davidson for treasurer

Two of us from Clark County serve on the Washington State Investment Board, along with state Treasurer Duane Davidson. The WSIB invests about $150 billion of state pension and other funds, for the benefit of all the public employees of our state. The WSIB is the best-performing state pension fund in the country. It’s been a pleasure to give back for the teachers, police, firefighters and other public servants who do so much for our community and state.

Through my WSIB involvement, I have developed a great deal of respect for Duane Davidson’s intelligence, work ethic, competence, and integrity. He is an excellent public servant and an excellent person.

It can be challenging for moderate Republican officials to run for reelection this year in the face of the incivility, mendacity, and incompetency of the current White House. But Duane Davidson has managed to thread that needle and perform his job extraordinarily well for the benefit of all of us, with inclusivity, kindness, and decency. It is with pleasure that I support his reelection.

I have no idea what might become of the Republican Party after this election. What I do care about is electing great public servants, regardless of party or label, to help us tackle all the real challenges our state and nation face today.
