The reboot of the game show “Supermarket Sweep,” which premieres Sunday on ABC, will feature a contestant who grew up in the Felida area north of Vancouver.

Julia Warren, 35, now a mother of four living in Poway, Calif., enjoyed watching the game show whenever she was home sick from school as a kid.

“Supermaket Sweep” — part trivia quiz, part foot race — had earlier iterations in the 1960s and the 1990s. Emmy Award-nominated comedienne and actress Leslie Jones is both the host and executive producer of the new version.

According to ABC, “the fast-paced and energetic series follows three teams of two as they battle it out using their grocery shopping skills and knowledge of merchandise to win big cash prizes.”

Warren and her friend and neighbor, Lois Arbogast, team up in the inaugural episode. Warren, who lived in Clark County until graduating from Skyview High School in 2003, auditioned in January. Then the coronavirus pandemic swept across the United States and delayed taping.

Warren became accustomed to grocery shopping online for her large family. She hadn’t been inside a grocery store for months by the time taping was set for July. “I said, ‘I need to go back to the grocery store and do my homework.’ ”

Competing on the show offered some excitement during a time when she was focused on the day-to-day of home schooling her children and isolating during the pandemic.

“It was a bright spot,” she said.

Warren said she was a bit intimidated by the idea of meeting Jones.

“She’s such a big personality. I worried, ‘What if she roasts us? What if I don’t have a comeback for her?’ She helped put me at ease,” Warren said. “If I had any nerves, they disappeared when she started telling jokes.”

Warren can’t reveal the outcome of the show, not even to her parents, Tom and Julie Higgins of Felida, she said. “They’ll be as surprised as everyone else watching.”
