Letter: Trump does Putin’s work for him

The echoes of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election are still reverberating off the towering walls of the political chasm gouged ever deeper by the current administration. Now our national intelligence agencies tell us it’s happening again.

Ironically, the most effective agent supporting those subversive efforts is Trump. He vociferously claims, without evidence, voting by mail will produce massive voter fraud. He has stoked the fires of division by telling white supremacists to “stand back, stand by.” He has instructed his supporters to be “poll watchers” in a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate voters and suppress voter turnout. And he has cast doubt on whether or not he will accept the results of the election if he does not prevail.

Russia and other foreign powers can relax. Their job is being done for them.

I bet Putin goes to bed every night with a smile on his face. He sleeps soundly knowing his U.S. presidential election disinformation and division campaign is exceeding all his expectations.

Me, I go to bed each night with a furrowed brow. I lie awake in the small hours of the morning unable to sleep for the very same reason Putin sleeps so well.
