I would like to offer three cheers for Clark County and our community. While the wheels have come off our national bandwagon, we have some local successes to celebrate.
First is our County Health Department, Dr. Alan Melnick, and his staff. I doubt that they had any idea of the ordeal waiting for them in 2020, or they might have elected to be elsewhere. Instead they are on the front line and their work directly benefits all of us. Cheers!
Second is our local government. They have made a public commitment to understanding systemic racism. Eric Holmes, our city manager, has created a task force to review local policing policies. These are proactive and positive actions. Cheers!
Finally, we should all celebrate our newspaper, The Columbian. Our local newspaper is a jewel. We have daily local health guidance and a proactive local government in large part due to The Columbian. Our community would be less aware or even blind without it. Subscribe, support advertisers, and encourage your friends to subscribe. Cheers!
Oh, and maybe a cheer for ourselves, our high voter turnout matters. Everybody needs to vote as if your life depends on it!
