Letter: The true path forward

By James Ault, Vancouver

All the anger, destruction and graffiti of the recent protests has done absolutely nothing to advance lives and values of minorities. Calling every law, policy, elected official, statue, street/neighborhood name, book or movie as “racist” has lowered this epithet as to become meaningless.

Everyone agrees that education is the most reliable vehicle for a better existence, yet all this protest effort has not produced a more rigorous scholastic curriculum, more responsive public school system or expanded choice via vouchers and effective charter schools. The focus of rage against law enforcement has not led to safer minority communities, fewer guns in the hands of criminals, less vandalism, or more “social justice.”

Systemic progressivism refuses to acknowledge the basic tenets that lead to more optimal lives, such as hard work, stable families, community involvement and even entrepreneurship. Instead it offers no path forward; only infantile, post-modern nihilism.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
