Letter: Trump mismanaged virus response

Donald Trump, not China, failed to stop the 2019 novel coronavirus from spreading in the U.S. Trump failed to shut down the economy, allowing the virus to spread. He thought it was just a West Coast Blue State thing. Trump suspended entry only from parts of China and he did not impose similar restrictions for Europe, allowing further infection of Americans on the East Coast. He claims it is all “under control” when that is blatantly untrue. Trump took no responsibility, forcing governors to wrestle with viral containment, competing for critical (and price-gouged) resources that drained state budgets. He prefers that states go bankrupt rather than approve a bill for aid. Trump’s focus is his reelection. He has spent considerable time pushing for voter suppression by strangling the U.S. Postal Service while promoting sports and back-to-school. So, if your freedoms are still restricted by the 2019 novel coronavirus, thank Donald Trump.
