Letter: Activate countermeasures

By Fae Jackson, Vancouver

I am appalled. In The Columbian there was an article — right above the current statistics of 2,478 cases of COVID-19, and 48 deaths in Clark County — reporting that Activate Republicans held an event with 100 people (“GOP event: safety measures optional,” The Columbian, Aug. 27). At that event, there were hugs, handshakes and no masks. A cardboard cutout of Trump at the event reminds them and us that caring for your community is indeed done with a partisan heart. And Republicans just don’t care about doing what it takes to keep all of us safe. Big surprise.

I was not going to vote Republican anyway, but this careless behavior seals the deal for me.
